A few days ago, I mentioned that Peter Gammons thought the Mets were stockpiling talent in preparation for a Johan Santana deal. This, he thought, may explain why the Twins have been waiting to make a deal. A couple of days ago, the Mets dealt for fourth outfielder Angel Pagan. And Pagan could theoretically replace Carlos Gomez on the Mets roster next year, should Gomez be dealt in a Santana deal.
That same day, it was reported that the Mets have interest in Athletics pitcher Joe Blanton. Could they be trying to pressure the Twins into a deal? If the Mets were to acquire Blanton, it would take them out of the Santana sweepstakes, leaving only two teams. And the true interest levels of the Red Sox and Yankees are somewhat questionable. Of all three times, I think it's fair to say that the Mets need Santana the most.
In addition to pressure from the Mets, Hank Steinbrenner appears to be applying pressure to the Twins to make a deal. On Thursday when talking about Johan Santana, Steinbrenner said, "in the next two weeks, we're going to have to get everything done." For once, I wish Hank had the slightest bit of credibility when it came to ultimatums. Maybe he actually could help to get the ball rolling. Unfortunately, Hank's believability is more like that of a car salesman than a team owner.

I mean I guess you could say that, but I really don't believe the Mets are going to trade for Santana.. Not that they don't have the chips to get it done because that is overrated, it's that they don't want to give up the chips..
It would probably take a package near..
Gomez,Martinez,Guerra,Mulvey and maybe even Aaron Heilman.. The Mets don't want to trade low on their prospects.. and I agree they shouldn't.. Believe me Guerra is the real deal, and maybe as soon as next off-season he'll be a top prospect..
We all know how high the Mets are on Martinez.. And they don't want to give him up without seeing what he can do.. Also his value is low right now because of his injury and if he can hit .280 next year in AA it'll be much higher
It's a complicated situation, but I thought the idea was worth considering. Thank you for your perspective. I haven't heard much from Mets fans on a prospective Santana deal.
from all the blogs and articles i have read it seems like most met fans are salivating to get santana as well as becoming completely disillusioned about omar.
it's nice to get a fresh perspective.
Well Micheal the reason for all that is metsblog.com.. Now I'm a huge fan of the site, but Cerrone is basically stalking Santana and writing anything that comes close to news..
metsblog influences so many fans it's not even funny. A lot of fans are just people who watch the games and like the Mets, but they don't know anything about the prospects or where the Mets are headed.. So they basically just follow all metsblogs opinions, and stay with that one perspective..
This is one of the reasons why I created my blog.. www.metsprospectus.blogspot.com.. Fans need different perspectives, and they need to know something about the minor leagues.
yeah, i know what you mean about cerrone's blog.
i generally read it just to check out the crazy comments!
